Having a beautiful smile at any age

There has been a great deal of progress in the field of dentistry in recent years. Fortunately, a multitude of options is now available to you if you need to replace a missing or damaged tooth or teeth. The following is a brief description of the various solutions that the Costisella dental clinic offers to its clients.

Crowns on natural teeth and crowns on implants

A crown is used to cover part of a broken tooth. It can reinforce a weakened tooth and protect it against wear. Porcelain is the material of choice since its properties are very close to those of dental enamel. The esthetics are therefore optimal, and a person with a crown is essentially able to chew as well as someone with a mouth full of natural teeth. In addition, a crown that is properly maintained can last for over 10 years.

A crown on an implant covers the abutment of the implant in order to enhance a person’s appearance or to improve function in an area that was previously missing teeth. In other words, crowns can replace one or more missing teeth. From a visual and functional point of view, a crown on an implant is similar to a natural tooth. In addition, patients greatly appreciate this option because it represents a lasting solution and helps them avoid the discomfort that comes from wearing a prosthesis. And patients are amazed to discover that implant surgery is virtually pain free!

Bridges on natural teeth and bridges on implants

A bridge can be used to replace a number of adjoining teeth. A bridge can be supported by natural teeth or by implants when there are not enough healthy teeth to support it. A bridge is a permanent solution that can last for over 10 years if you take care of it. A bridge on natural teeth helps prevent the migration and loss of remaining teeth but also minimizes the risk of them becoming loose.

Unlike with a bridge on natural teeth, the neighbouring teeth are not engaged or weakened with a bridge on implants. Also, implants stimulate the jawbone, helping preserve bone structure. They also feel more or less like natural teeth.
Whether on natural teeth or implants, a bridge can brighten up your smile while making it easier to chew and digest food.

Prosthesis on implants

A prosthesis on implants is an ideal solution when a patient is missing some teeth and is looking for a lasting solution, if the patient’s jawbone is in good condition (bone is healthy and there is a significant amount of it). A prosthesis on implants is screwed or cemented onto 2 to 10 implants per maxilla, depending on the patient’s wishes and the many anatomical characteristics of each one. This technique offers an excellent level of stability and comfort, and the esthetics are superior. In addition, the client’s chewing and speaking capacity is similar to that of a person with all natural teeth. In short, a number of our patients have been very happy with this alternative over the past few years!
