Gingivitis vs Periodontitis

The two most common forms of gum disease are gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis is minor gum inflammation and it can be addressed quite easily. Poor dental hygiene, stress, tobacco, heredity and illness are usually the cause. Gingivitis is often painless and the symptoms include gums that bleed when you brush or floss.

Periodontitis is caused by bacteria that grow inside the periodontal pockets and slowly destroy the tissues surrounding your teeth. If periodontitis is detected early on, it can be resolved relatively easily. But more complex treatments are needed for advanced cases of periodontitis.
